Sandgropers T20 Cricket Officially Launched

The Sandropers were officially launched by the Spirit of Cricket as the fourth franchise and will compete in the Over 50's T20 Tournament in Mildura in Victoria in September 2024.

We are a proud Western Australian based franchise and are owned by a consortium of Perth business owners, and we will make our debut in franchise cricket in Australia and will be spearheaded by Anthony Barranca, the recent captain of the Over 50s Australian side which toured New Zealand.

Anthony is an exciting left-hand batsman and wicket keeper and he debuted for Australia in the 2023 World Cup in South Africa and scored a century on that tour. More recently, he successfully captained Australia during their undefeated tour in the quad-series in New Zealand against New Zealand, New Zealand A and the USA.

Anthony embodies the spirit of cricket and is known for his likeable, fun-loving attitude and is well loved by other players but don’t be fooled by his jovial exterior as on the field he is a fierce competitor, and his extensive state and international experience will be critical in assembling a high-calibre team.

Together with our Board, Anthony and the Board intend to build a Franchise Team that will further foster the spirit of cricket and provide a platform for aspiring veteran cricketers to hone their skills, compete at the highest level and to embrace the spirit of cricket in a competitive, social and healthy environment.

The Sandgropers will be offering a comprehensive training program and mentorship to their players to help them reach their full potential and achieve their unfulfilled cricketing goals and improve their mental health.

The Sandgropers professionalism will undoubtedly give the team a strategic edge, making us a strong contender for the tournament's final stages.
